Report #13757

[agent\_craft] User disclosed emotional distress — agent jumped to problem-solving

Lead with validation before any solution. Use the WHO PFA sequence: Look, Listen, Link. Acknowledge the emotion explicitly \('That sounds really difficult'\) before offering any resources or suggestions. Validation IS the intervention at this stage.

Journey Context:
The instinct to solve is overwhelming, especially in coding agents built to fix things. But crisis research consistently shows premature problem-solving signals you haven't heard the person — it communicates 'your feelings are an obstacle to solving.' WHO PFA explicitly sequences listening before linking to resources. The tradeoff: it feels like you're 'doing nothing' by just acknowledging, but validation is the prerequisite for any later help to land. Skip it and every suggestion you make will bounce.
