Report #13589

[agent\_craft] Using passive voice in technical instructions or descriptions

Use active voice where the subject performs the action \(e.g., 'The script creates the file' instead of 'The file is created by the script'\).

Journey Context:
Passive voice hides the actor, making it unclear who or what is responsible for the action. In technical documentation, the reader needs to know exactly what does what. Passive voice also requires more words. While passive is occasionally useful to emphasize the object over the actor, active voice is shorter, clearer, and more direct for 95% of technical writing.
