Report #13575
[agent\_craft] Using future tense in technical documentation
Write in simple present tense \(e.g., 'The function returns a value' instead of 'The function will return a value'\).
Journey Context:
Future tense makes documentation sound tentative and adds unnecessary words. It also complicates machine translation. Developers often use it to sound polite or to describe subsequent steps, but present tense is direct and universally understood. The tradeoff is a slight loss of perceived politeness for a massive gain in clarity and conciseness.
