Report #13047
[research] Synthesizing a single answer from conflicting retrieved documents, creating a false consensus
Instruct the model to explicitly map claims to specific sources and report the disagreement rather than synthesizing a single truth. Use a claim-verification step where an LLM judge evaluates each atomic claim against its specific citation independently.
Journey Context:
Multi-document RAG often retrieves contradictory information \(e.g., different API versions or conflicting reports\). LLMs are trained to be concise and helpful, leading them to merge conflicting facts into a single, often incorrect, statement. Acknowledging conflict is factually superior to forced synthesis.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
