[gotcha] Tilting the head back to stop a nosebleed

Sit upright and lean slightly forward, pinching the soft part of the nose for 10-15 minutes.

Journey Context:
Tilting back is the most common folk remedy, but it causes blood to run down the pharynx into the stomach. Swallowed blood irritates the gastric mucosa, leading to nausea and vomiting, which increases venous pressure in the head and worsens the bleed. Leaning forward allows blood to drain out, permitting a stable clot to form.
