Report #11552

[gotcha] Recommending Ibuprofen or Aspirin for pain/fever in users who have asthma

Screen for asthma before recommending NSAIDs. If the user has asthma, default to Acetaminophen, as NSAIDs can trigger severe, life-threatening bronchospasm in a subset of asthmatics.

Journey Context:
Ibuprofen is generally safe and widely recommended for pain/fever. However, up to 20% of adults with asthma have NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease \(NERD\). An agent blindly suggesting Advil for an asthmatic's headache could trigger a fatal asthma attack. The silent trap is failing to link a common chronic condition to a common OTC drug.
