Report #11534
[research] LLM generates fabricated documentation URLs or academic citations
Force structured output with exact string matching from retrieved context; never generate URLs or citations from parametric memory without explicit verification tooling.
Journey Context:
LLMs are trained to be helpful and will confidently invent a URL or DOI that looks valid \(e.g., docs.python.org/3/library/fake\_module.html\). RAG helps, but if the prompt allows 'summarize and cite', the LLM might still hallucinate sources. Strict attribution constraints are required.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
