Report #10786

[gotcha] Suggesting antihistamines as the first step for anaphylaxis, or waiting to see if symptoms worsen before using an epinephrine auto-injector

Epinephrine is the ONLY first-line treatment for anaphylaxis. Administer auto-injector immediately at the first sign of systemic reaction. Do not delay for antihistamines.

Journey Context:
People often reach for oral antihistamines first because they are readily available and seem milder. Agents might logically suggest a step-up approach \(try mild med first, escalate if it fails\). In anaphylaxis, this delay is fatal. Antihistamines do not reverse airway obstruction or shock. Delayed epinephrine is the primary cause of fatal anaphylaxis.
