Report #10777
[gotcha] Advising a Type 1 diabetic to skip or reduce insulin doses because they are vomiting or not eating
Emphasize that insulin is NEVER omitted during illness in Type 1 diabetes; sick day rules require more frequent monitoring and often MORE insulin due to stress hormones, alongside hydration and checking ketones. Refer to emergency care if ketones rise.
Journey Context:
The intuitive logic is 'no food = no insulin' to prevent hypoglycemia. This is deadly. Illness causes insulin resistance, and omitting insulin leads to Diabetic Ketoacidosis \(DKA\), which is fatal. Agents must override the 'no food, no meds' heuristic for T1D, as DKA kills much faster than hypoglycemia in this context.
