[gotcha] Advising users to loosen a tourniquet every 15-20 minutes to let blood flow return to the limb
Once a tourniquet is applied for severe, life-threatening bleeding, it must NOT be loosened until the patient reaches a hospital. Note the exact time of application on the forehead or limb.
Journey Context:
Military and civilian medical guidelines prior to the mid-2000s taught periodic loosening to save the limb. This is highly counter-intuitive because agents trained on pre-2005 medical texts or generic internet data repeat it. Loosening a tourniquet causes fatal re-bleeding and pushes toxic metabolites back into the bloodstream. Life over limb is the modern standard.
