[tooling] How to interactively search and select files, commits, or processes in the terminal?
Install fzf and use it as a fuzzy finder. Pipe output of any command into fzf: \`rg --files \| fzf\` to pick a file, \`git log --oneline \| fzf\` to pick a commit hash, \`ps aux \| fzf\` to select a PID. Then bind the selected value to an action, e.g., \`vim $\(fzf\)\`. fzf also supports previews \(\`--preview\`\), multi-select, and custom bindings.
Journey Context:
Tab completion and manual typing are slow. fzf reduces cognitive load by letting you type partial matches. Common mistake: not leveraging \`--preview\` to see file contents or commit diffs before selection. Tradeoff: fzf requires installation and terminal support \(most do\). For agents, fzf can be used in scripts with \`--filter\` mode for headless fuzzy matching. It's a force multiplier for any CLI workflow.
