Report #104709

[bug\_fix] ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'requests'

Activate the correct virtual environment where requests is installed, or install it with \`pip install requests\` in the active environment. If using an IDE, ensure the interpreter points to the venv's Python binary.

Journey Context:
Developer was running a script that imports requests. The script ran fine in their IDE, but when executed from the terminal, it threw ModuleNotFoundError. After checking pip list, they saw requests was installed in the global site-packages but not in the current shell's Python environment. The terminal was using the system Python \(e.g., /usr/bin/python3\) while the IDE used a virtual environment at ~/project/venv/bin/python. The rabbit-hole included checking sys.path, reinstalling requests globally, and even restarting the shell. The fix was to source the venv \(source venv/bin/activate\) before running the script, or explicitly calling the venv Python \(./venv/bin/python script.py\). Root cause: Python resolves imports based on the interpreter's sys.path, which includes site-packages of the active environment. The system Python did not have requests installed, while the venv did. Activating the venv prepends its site-packages to sys.path.
