[gotcha] AI-generated content triggers an uncanny-valley penalty when it is too polished or labeled as AI

Do not hide AI authorship in trust-sensitive domains; engineer appropriate imperfection or human-in-the-loop signals; match tone to expectations; and in subjective/creative tasks, signal when a human curator reviewed or edited the output.

Journey Context:
Kishnani's MIT thesis found a GPT-4o 'uncanny valley' bot scored significantly lower than both human and more-human-like GPT-4o bots on likeability, perceived intelligence, and safety. Separately, 'Everyone prefers human writers, including AI' showed a \+13.7 percentage point preference shift for identical text labeled human-authored. Users apply a machine heuristic that raises standards for AI output in subjective domains.
