Report #103648
[research] LLM drafts contain factual errors that go uncorrected
After drafting an answer, generate independent verification questions, answer each without seeing the draft, then revise the final answer based only on the verified facts.
Journey Context:
Simple self-correction often fails because the model rehearses its initial answer. Chain-of-Verification forces independent verification by answering verification questions in isolation before revising. This reduces hallucination on list and closed-book QA tasks compared to direct generation and standard self-correction.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
