Report #103363
[frontier] Dumping every screenshot, video frame, and document page into the context window breaks cost and latency
Build a functional memory hierarchy: raw frames live briefly in working memory, compact visual summaries move to episodic memory, and extracted facts go to semantic retrieval. Evict raw media aggressively after each step.
Journey Context:
Multimodal tokens are orders of magnitude more expensive than text and long-context models do not automatically manage them well. The emerging pattern is to summarize visual observations into compact structured text immediately, keeping only the most recent raw frames and retrieval-indexed keyframes. This mirrors MemGPT-style tiers but adds modality-specific compression.
