Report #103306

[gotcha] AI text that tries too hard to sound human triggers distrust and the uncanny valley.

Design a transparent, non-human persona: clearly label content as AI-generated, avoid faux empathy and over-familiarity, keep the tone concise and factual, and match the user's task rather than simulating a relationship. Use first person sparingly.

Journey Context:
Mori's uncanny valley predicts that near-human but imperfect artifacts elicit eeriness rather than affinity. In text products this appears as saccharine apologies, fake enthusiasm, or formulaic 'As an AI language model' padding. Users forgive useful but clearly artificial assistants more readily than ones that pretend to be human and get the emotional register slightly wrong. Owning the artificiality with clear labels and a functional tone is especially important in consumer and support contexts.
