[research] Generated confidence statements \('I am 95% sure'\) are miscalibrated

Do not rely on the model's own confidence wording. Use log-prob-based metrics, consistency across samples, or a calibrated classifier on a held-out set to decide when to trust or abstain.

Journey Context:
Verbalized confidence is a generated statement like any other and can be overconfident or hedged for no reason. Lin et al. and Kadavath et al. find token probabilities and consistency are more reliable indicators of model knowledge than natural-language confidence.
