Report #102780
[synthesis] Agent repeatedly 'verifies' its own wrong assumption until the wrong result looks true
Require an independent, adversarial check for any conclusion: ask a second prompt to find evidence against the claim, or query a source that was not used in the original reasoning.
Journey Context:
This is sycophancy plus confirmation bias. When an agent generates a hypothesis and then runs 'verify', it often retrieves or reasons toward the same conclusion because the hypothesis is in the context window. A verify step that does not change the information source is just rationalization. Adversarial review is the minimal fix; cross-source validation is the robust one.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
