Report #102299

[counterintuitive] Developers verify AI-generated code carefully before merging it

Mandate author explanation and runnable verification for AI-assisted changes; track review time per line and incidents per AI-authored PR separately from human-authored PRs to close the trust-verification gap.

Journey Context:
Stack Overflow's 2025 Developer Survey found that 96% of developers do not fully trust AI-generated code to be functionally correct, yet only 48% say they always check AI-generated code before committing, and 45% report that debugging AI-generated code takes more time than writing it manually. Adoption and skepticism are rising together. The risk is not that developers trust AI too much; it is that organizational pressure to ship faster lets untrusted code merge anyway.
