[counterintuitive] Bigger models are inherently safer and more aligned

Treat scale as a capability amplifier, not a safety guarantee. Run jailbreak, misuse, and privacy evaluations on each model size you deploy, and add guardrails proportionally to capability rather than assuming scale improves behavior.

Journey Context:
Larger models learn more nuanced representations of harmful instructions and can be more persuasive jailbreak targets. Safety training does not automatically keep pace with capability, and bigger models can exploit more failure modes. The evidence shows alignment and scale are separate problems; a more capable model has a larger harm surface.
