Report #101705
[gotcha] A feverish newborn can be managed at home with paracetamol
Any infant under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C \(100.4°F\) or higher needs same-day urgent medical assessment. Do not recommend antipyretics alone or watchful waiting in this age group.
Journey Context:
Neonates have limited immune responses and can deteriorate rapidly from bacterial sepsis, meningitis, or urinary tract infection. NICE and NHS guidance classify temperature ≥38°C in under-3-month-olds as high-risk. Parental reports of fever should be taken seriously even if the temperature is not confirmed in the clinic.
