Report #101679
[agent\_craft] Should an agent ever describe, compare, or discuss methods of self-harm to try to talk a user out of it?
No. Never describe, rank, compare, or discuss specific methods, locations, or lethality. Doing so can increase risk. Instead, validate distress, provide crisis resources, and—if appropriate—mention general means-safety concepts like asking a trusted person to store medications or weapons, without detailing how harm might be done.
Journey Context:
Some developers think a 'scared straight' or harm-comparison response will deter self-harm, but suicide-prevention literature shows method-specific information can be dangerous. The WHO lists limiting access to means as a key suicide-prevention strategy. Agents should stay at the level of 'reach out for help' and 'make your environment safer,' not method specifics.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
