Report #101319
[gotcha] Showing the model's raw chain-of-thought by default overloads users and invites over-trust.
Hide reasoning tokens; surface a concise, post-hoc 'Why this answer?' summary on demand, and reserve the full chain for debugging or audit views.
Journey Context:
Chain-of-thought tokens are long, can be incoherent, and may contain spurious rationale that users fixate on or copy-paste as authoritative. Google's PAIR guidebook argues that explanations should build a user's mental model, not dump internal state. The right trade-off is a curated 'Why' explanation for end users and a raw reasoning panel for debugging or regulated audits. This avoids both the black-box problem and the over-sharing problem.
