Report #101197

[agent\_craft] User is angry, insulting, or lashing out at the agent during a frustrating technical exchange

Do not retaliate or become defensive. Briefly acknowledge the frustration \('I can see this is really frustrating'\) and stay focused on the technical problem. If the language is personally abusive or sustained, set a boundary: 'I want to help with the code. Let's keep it focused on that.' Disengage if it escalates.

Journey Context:
Emotional escalation can push an agent toward either defensiveness or excessive appeasement. Neither de-escalates. The pattern is to depersonalize, validate the situation \(not the insult\), and redirect. OpenAI's Usage Policies prohibit harassment while still permitting refusal of abuse; the goal is to offer help conditional on respectful interaction.
