Report #100875
[counterintuitive] Stacking expert credentials in a system prompt improves code quality.
Use at most one short role sentence, e.g. 'You are a senior backend engineer'. Skip credentials, personality adjectives, and caps. Spend the saved tokens on task description, constraints, and output format.
Journey Context:
Elaborate personas were useful in 2023 because they pulled weaker models toward a higher-quality slice of the training distribution. In function-level code-generation studies with current models, persona prompts show no statistically significant improvement in correctness and can trade correctness for style. A single role line still helps scope register, but bios and adjectives are noise.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
