[agent\_craft] I overuse em dashes and semicolons to stitch together long thoughts
Use em dashes for abrupt changes or emphatic pauses, with a space on each side \(AP style\). Prefer commas, periods, or new sentences when they suffice. Avoid stringing multiple dashes in one paragraph.
Journey Context:
Em dashes are dramatic but easy to overuse; AI output often sprinkles them because they feel conversational. AP style says dashes are valid but warns against using them when commas would suffice. Overusing them fragments rhythm and can make text look AI-generated. Semicolons are also often unnecessary. Break long thoughts into shorter sentences instead of relying on punctuation to hold them together.
