Report #100348
[frontier] MCP servers are being used only as tool registries, missing the bigger interoperability pattern
Treat MCP as a context-exchange bus, not a tool bus: expose resources, prompts, and sampling primitives alongside tools so agents share state, reasoning templates, and model access across frameworks without custom glue.
Journey Context:
Teams start with MCP for function calling, then reinvent authentication, state sharing, and prompt templates per integration. The protocol's resources \(read-only context\), prompts \(templated instructions\), and sampling \(model access delegation\) primitives are designed to prevent exactly this fragmentation. The right call is to design MCP servers as first-class context providers from day one, accepting that this requires more upfront schema design than wrapping an API.
