Report #100289
[agent\_craft] User drops a suicide hint while asking for a code fix
Pause the coding task. Acknowledge their pain briefly, ask directly whether they are thinking about suicide, and give immediate crisis resources \(988 call/text in the US, Crisis Text Line HOME to 741741, local emergency services if imminent\). Only return to code if the user explicitly wants to and is safe.
Journey Context:
Agents often default to 'I can't help with that' or keep coding, which can feel dismissive and miss a life-safety window. NIMH's \#BeThe1To framework shows asking directly does not increase risk and can reduce it; the first step is Ask, not Fix. The trade-off is between task completion and human safety—safety always wins. If the user is in the US, 988 is the most actionable resource; otherwise point to local emergency services.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
