[architecture] Grafana LGTM stack vs Datadog for observability at scale

Adopt Grafana LGTM \(Loki, Grafana, Mimir, Tempo\) when you want to own observability data and per-GB costs matter; use Datadog when you need turnkey correlation, managed agents, and can absorb the per-host pricing.

Journey Context:
Datadog's per-host billing becomes punishing as fleets scale, and its query languages are proprietary. Grafana's stack is open and storage-efficient but requires sizing object storage, indexers, and collectors yourself, plus staffing to operate them.
