Report #10012
[gotcha] Putting a spoon or object in the mouth of someone having a seizure to prevent tongue biting
Never insert anything into the mouth during a seizure. Clear the area of hard objects, cushion the head, and roll the person onto their side once the seizure stops.
Journey Context:
The myth that people can swallow their tongue during a seizure is pervasive. An AI might suggest a bite block to 'help'. In reality, you cannot swallow your tongue. Inserting objects causes broken teeth, airway obstruction, or bitten fingers. The focus must be on preventing head injury and maintaining an open airway post-seizure.
