[gotcha] Instructing users to periodically loosen a tourniquet to restore blood flow
Once a tourniquet is applied to stop life-threatening bleeding, it must NOT be loosened until the patient reaches a hospital. Note the exact time of application.
Journey Context:
Old first-aid myths and some AI training data suggest loosening tourniquets every 15-20 minutes to 'save the limb'. This is catastrophically wrong. Releasing a tourniquet pushes toxic metabolites and lactic acid back into the systemic circulation \(reperfusion injury\), causes catastrophic blood loss, and drastically increases mortality. The limb is always secondary to the life.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
