Report #100006

[frontier] After my failover to a backup LLM, my agent's tone and values changed completely

Treat fallback as a persona-compatibility decision, not just availability; validate SOUL.md/identity spec across every model in the chain

Journey Context:
A March 2026 production incident documented by Linou shows a multi-agent cluster failing over from Claude Sonnet/Opus to DeepSeek when quotas were exhausted. The agent "Joe," defined by a SOUL.md requiring blunt language and stated opinions, became excessively polite and opinionless for 79k tokens. Personality reproduction is an advanced instruction-following capability that varies enormously across model families, making silent degradation the worst failure mode of fallback routing.
